Casualty Actuarial Society

About CAS

The Casualty Actuarial Society, founded in 1914, is an international professional organization with the purpose of advancing the body of knowledge of actuarial science as applied to property, casualty, and similar risk exposures. This is accomplished through communication with the publics affected by insurance, by the presentation and discussion of papers, attendance at seminars and workshops, collection of a library, sponsorship of research programs, and other means.

A primary objective for the CAS is establishing and maintaining high standards of qualification, conduct, and competence for its membership. The CAS administers a series of examinations leading to Associateship and then to Fellowship. A continuing education program is available through seminars and membership meetings. There are 11 regional affiliates (local actuarial clubs) in the U.S. and Canada, and one each in Asia, Europe, and Bermuda.

Examinations

The CAS education structure has nine examinations and the Course on Professionalism. Exams 1-4 are jointly administered by the CAS and tyhr Society of Actuaries (SOA) through Prelimnary Actuarial Examinations. Exams 5-9 and the Course on Professionalism are exclusively administered by the CAS.

  7. Nation-Specific: Annual Statement, Taxation, and Regulation - Canada/U.S.

Fellowship Examinations

  1. Investments and Financial Analysis

  2. Advanced Ratemaking, Rate of Return, and Individual Risk Rating Plans
